Everyone wants great looking hair – right! Unfortunately, a consequence of all that coloring, highlighting, perming, straightening, etc. – can be overly dry, brittle, porous and - well - damaged hair. Damaged hair causes hair color to fade quicker, hair to be hard to comb and general unmanageability.
- The Right Products for Damaged Hair... Along with diet and proper hair maintenance, the right products can help prevent and restore damaged hair. For shampoo, look for products designed to moisturize. These products will add protein and nutrients to the hair shaft. Avoid shampoo with harsh sulfates (salts) that strip natural oils as well as color. Look for products labeled “for dry, damaged, or thick hair.”
Conditioners and treatments will have the greatest impact on the health of your hair. For mild damage, a quality rinse out conditioner, designed to infuse natural amino acids and protein, will restore your hair’s lost moisture content. For severe damage, a more intense hair treatment (or masque) may be needed. Designed with the same goal as rinse-out conditioners, a deep treatment will infusion nutrients deep into the hair to rebuild it’s structure. - Prevention is the Key to Healthier Hair…It is much easier to prevent damaged hair than repair it. Avoid products with harsh chemicals and alcohol (common in styling products) that dry out hair. If possible, limit your use of styling tools. Let your hair air dry occasionally and use products, such as leave-in conditioners, to protect your hair from heat when styling and the environment.
